From Classroom to Community: Learning Express Gallery Walk Ignites Transformative Education

Thai and Singaporean students unite in an immersive, hands-on journey—co-creating innovative solutions with local communities in Chiang Mai while advancing inclusive, equitable, and future-ready education.

At the heart of this initiative is a commitment to student-centered, community-engaged education. Multidisciplinary teams of Thai and Singaporean students immersed themselves in local communities across Chiang Mai, conducting participatory survey to identify pressing challenges. From preserving local artisans to enhancing community livelihoods, students ensured their learning was relevant, context-driven, and socially impactful.

Guided by Design Thinking, students engaged in a rigorous process of empathy, ideation, and prototyping. This innovative, hands-on pedagogy nurtured the 4Cs of 21st-century skills; critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication, while strengthening problem-solving, adaptability, and global competencce.The Gallery Walk presented these solutions as tangible prototypes, reflecting applied knowledge and interdisciplinary innovation.

The benefits extend across all stakeholders. Students gain future-ready skills and lifelong learning competencies, institutions reinforce their role in delivering quality and inclusive education, and communities benefit from co-created, sustainable solutions. Importantly, this approach empowers learners to actively contribute to society.

The impact is both immediate and enduring. By bridging academic learning with real-world challenges, the Learning Express programme exemplifies how higher education can drive equity, innovation, and meaningful community engagement. It stands as a powerful model, proving that when education is inclusive, collaborative, and purpose-driven, it becomes a force capable of transforming not only learners, but entire communities.
